Legendary golfer Gary Player, who won more than 160 professional tournaments over a career that spanned seven decades, will feature at the Fanling course in November as an ambassador of the LINK Hong Kong Open.
The South African player hailed the tournament as “Asia’s Major”, marking “golf’s development in China”.
Meanwhile, Taichi Kho, the first player from the SAR to win on the Asian Tour, said he was excited to return to his home Open.
“It’s the event I’ve been looking forward to the whole year and whether I play well or not, I know everyone has my back and I feel so much support from the local crowd and the Hong Kong Golf Club and everyone involved,” said Kho.
“I think golf is a sport that comes and goes. Sometimes you score well and sometimes you don’t. But I feel very proud of the fact that I’ve been able to stay focused all year and stay disciplined to do what I set out to do.”
“So it hasn’t surprised me that my golf has come along nicely the second half of the year and I look forward to continuing that momentum into the final stretch.”
Last year’s champion, Ben Campbell of New Zealand, will also play to defend his title.
The 2024 Open will take place from November 21 to 24, featuring a prize purse of US$2 million.
