Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Course

Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Course Update (August 2015).  Sky City Nine Eagles is now permanently closed.  This is no surprise and no loss to golf in Hong Kong.

Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Course is a Nine Hole “Executive” Course consisting of 7 Par 3’s and 2 very short Par 4’s. Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Course is an annoying layout for us, the large majority of golfers who play these types of courses are beginners or new players and expect something relatively easy. While there are for sure some very basic golf holes, there’s also a number of difficult golf holes which makes Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Course not really suitable for most beginners. For the experienced player, the course doesn’t offer up any special surprises, the first hole is a basic 90 yard Par 3 and it doesn’t really get any better. Sure, they’ve got an island hole but at the most it plays 140 yards and the green is so large that missing the green won’t come into most good players’ minds.
The cost is also an issue at Nine Eagles Golf Hong Kong – To play on the weekend as a visitor it’s $610, not much less than a Green Fee at Kai Sai Chau Golf Course. For most players, they’d rather play 18 holes and pay a few hundred extra.

If Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Course was a good design, it’d be different, and while we wouldn’t go as far to say the golf course is bad, it’s just underwhelming. They do have a good practice green for chipping and a bunker but for pure value for money, you’re much better off playing Kai Sai Chau Golf Course. One of our Golf in Hong Kong Editorial staff also played there with a friend and on the 2nd nine, they were told they had to 40 minutes to tee off despite there being nobody booked. This was because they played “too fast” and were told they had to wait until the 2nd nine tee time came. It’s ridiculous things like this that make Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Course low on our list of courses to play in Hong Kong.

Sky City Nine Eagles Practice Area:

Now that Asia Golf Driving range in Hong Kong has closed down, where do you go to practice golf in Hong Kong? Nine Eagles Golf Course is a little Par 3 course by the airport, and whilst we don’t think much of that, their chipping area is quite sweet. It’s the best and closest chipping green to Central, and is reachable in about 30 minutes by car through the Western Tunnel. The chipping green is large, it has a really good grass area from which to chip/pitch from with multiple hole locations and you can also choose to chip from numerous rough areas around the green.

There’s also a decent sized bunker with good sand, so it’s definitely worth spending some time in the sand while you’re at this Hong Kong driving range. Sky City Nine Eagles Driving range is definitely worth the drive, and if you’re really keen to play, you can try the 9 hole pitch and putt, but 18 holes will cost you close to what it costs you to play Kai Sai Chai Public Golf Course in Hong Kong.

There’s also a medium sized putting green which is okay, but not fantastic, see photos below of Sky City Nine Eagles Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong
