Young guns Michael Yuen, Andrew Chan and Anthony Fang join likes of Dominique Boulet, whose 1996 placing is still Hong Kong’s best.
Some familiar faces and a few new kids on the block will look to ignite their LINK Hong Kong Open dreams in the event’s qualifying tournament on Thursday and Friday.
“The Voice of Asian Golf”, Dominique Boulet, will be giving his dulcet tones a rest for two days at the Hong Kong Golf Club’s New Course as he takes another crack at playing in a tournament in which he finished fourth in 1996 – still its best finish by a Hong Kong golfer.
He will be joined in the hunt to feature in the 63rd edition of the city’s Open by Hong Kong Golf Club professional Brian O’Donovan, who so memorably made the cut in last year’s tournament.
Also representing the club in its 135th year will be trainee pro Michael Regan Wong, who last week qualified for the Macau Open.
Some rising stars of Hong Kong golf are involved this week, too, in the shape of local amateurs Michael Yuen Chi-yeung – fresh from his second consecutive Hong Kong Junior Open Championship – Andrew Chan Sai-wah and Anthony Fang Kaixian, who are all part of the city’s representative set-up.
Local hero Taichi Kho is among the star names to have already signed on to appear in this year’s Open at the club from November 21 to 24.
He will be joined by England’s 2015 winner – and 2013 US Open champion – Justin Rose, alongside rising South Korean sensation Tom Kim and reigning champion Ben Campbell of New Zealand.
For the second year in a row, the Open will form part of the International Series, the set of 10 elevated events on the Asian Tour calendar that form a pathway to the LIV Golf League over the course of the season.
Events in the series also provide opportunities for local talent to compete in elite fields at each of its 10 destinations.
