The Hong Kong Golf Club is widely considered the premier golf course in Hong Kong, actually consisting of three 18 hole golf courses and is host to the Hong Kong Open, Hong Kong’s premier golf event co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tour. The Hong Kong Golf Club is just a 40 minute drive from Central but there drive is an easy one. Yes it’s members only, but the public can play during certain times on weekdays making it accessible to everybody.
The Hong Kong Golf Club has also recently opened it’s driving range to the public on weekday nights after 7p.m, making it by far the best driving range in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Golf Club Old Course is an old style course featuring small greens and tree lines fairways. The New Course has some very challenging greens and if you find yourself on the wrong side of the hole, usually above the hole, you’ll be left with what can be a very treacherous putt. 3 and 4 putting is common on the small Hong Kong Golf Club greens and we’ve even putted off the green and into bunkers when the greens are fast.
The deal for the public at Hong Kong Golf Club is quite a good one,at least for HKID holders, at just HKD$1,200 it includes a meal voucher and make sure you take advantage of that because there’s some very nice food at reasonable prices that is perfect for after the round. The clubhouse is nice, the pro shop is well stocked and although you won’t get to experience it, the have a good club fitting center with various shafts and grips that is useful for members.
The Hong Kong Golf Club allows visitors to play Mon-Fri (excluding public holidays) from 7:24a.m until dark. To book a tee time, simply call 2670 1211. You need to guarantee two tee times with your credit card and call between 3pm and 6p.m.
The Hong Kong Golf Club also has a nine hole layout at Deepwater Bay worth checking out. Click here to see our review.
If you can get a tee time, and you should be able to, the Hong Kong Golf Club is well worth the effort. There is a strict dress code, and make sure you tuck your shirt in and turn off your mobile phones in the clubhouse or you’ll get a slap on the wrist.
