HONG KONG GOLF CLUB DRIVING RANGE

The Hong Kong Golf Club driving range has recently opened to the public, weekdays from 7 p.m until 10p.m and is by far the best driving range in Hong Kong.  You need to book in advance and guarantee the booking with a credit card but it’s all worth it and blows every other driving range in Hong Kong out of the water. The Hong Kong Golf Club Driving Range is a little further out but the drive is all on a highway so it’ll only take 35-40 minutes from Central, less if you ignore the numerous speed cameras on the way.

Charges are $80 per half an hour, unlimited golf balls so it’s not cheap, but again, as far as hitting balls in Hong Kong goes, if you’re serious about golf, this is really the only driving range to consider.

It took us about 45 minutes from the Golf in Hong Kong offices in Cyberport, so from Central, it’d be about 30 minutes presuming you use (and you should) the Western Tunnel. The drive is an easy one, just follow the highway to Lok Ma Chau border and take the exit to Sheung Shui. Once you’re in the Western Tunnel there’s literally only one traffic light so it’s a nice stress free drive out there on the highway, which by the way, is littered with speed camera’s, so if you’re in a hurry, watch out for the orange boxes every couple of km’s!

We rolled up at 8:30p.m on a Friday night and had the range to ourselves. The staff are nice and take care of you and stay out of your way (take note Tai Po Driving Range!). The range is well floodlit and you can see where your ball lands with pretty much everything up to a 5 iron. The balls are new which is nice.

Perhaps the best thing about this driving range in Hong Kong is the mats, or should I say lack of mats. We don’t quite know how to describe this, but The Hong Kong Golf Club Driving range doesn’t use regular mats, but that artificial grass this is actually quite like grass, there’s no mats as such, it’s just one lone piece of whatever that material is – whatever it is, it’s MUCH better than the standard driving range mat used by every other Hong Kong driving range. You can put regular tees in it, and of course being the Hong Kong Golf Club Driving Range, it’s in good condition.

The only downer is you’re limited to night times, and it is a little bit far to go at night. Other than that, the Hong Kong Golf Club Driving range is by far the best driving range in Hong Kong. To book, visit the Hong Kong Golf Club’s website for contact details. Note that the Hong Kong Golf Club’s dress code applies to the driving range, so dress accordingly and tuck your shirt in you scruffy buggers!

For serious golfers in Hong Kong, this is the range to go to after work and is well worth the drive out if you’re looking for the best driving range in Hong Kong.
