National Golf Park

National Golf Park Hong Kong

We received an email to day about a “National Golf Park in Hong Kong” from the Hong Kong Golf Association who are claiming it’s going to be a “game-changer”.  It’s not finalised by any means and they’re seeking support. Here is the email in it’s entirety:

Dear Subscriber

We are excited to announce that the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) is applying to create a National Golf Park on a landfill site in Tseung Kwan O – part of the HK Government’s ‘Restored Landfill Revitalisation Funding Scheme’.

The success of our application for a HKGA National Golf Park will depend largely on the level of backing from the local community – so we hope you will be able to play a part by pledging your support. This can be done by sending us an email to golf@hkga.com or a letter to the office address below on or before 20 April (Wed); or, to make the process easier for you, by clicking HERE and simply pressing send.

We have enclosed more information on the project below. If you require further details or have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at golf@hkga.com or call the HKGA office on +852 2504 8659. We are extremely excited by the potential of a HKGA National Golf Park in Hong Kong and we thank you in advance for helping to make this dream come true.

Yours sincerely
Tom.

MORE INFORMATION ON THE HKGA NATIONAL GOLF PARK:

The HKGA National Golf Park will provide state-of-the-art golf practice facilities, golf tuition and other recreational activities, all centred around a 60-bay golf driving range. The objective is to help promote the game of golf in Hong Kong to the entire community, regardless of age, ability or background.

Target users for the HKGA National Golf Park will include: the general public, from beginners to elite-level golfers; Hong Kong national squads; juniors, including school-children from our HSBC Golf For Schools initiative; senior golfers and other elderly groups; charities; and disabled and disadvantaged golfers. Non-golfers will also have access to the National Golf Park with other recreational activities on offer plus facilities including a multi-purpose function-room and a health and fitness studio.

The National Golf Park will be open to the public from 7am to 11pm throughout the year. Its location in the densely-populated Tseung Kwan O district – close to major public transport routes, including multiple MTR stations – means that a high number of golfers from across Hong Kong will generate maximum usage at the facility at all times of the day.

We strongly believe that the HKGA National Golf Park can be a “game-changer” for golf in Hong Kong and become the single most significant development in our 48-year history of promoting golf as a National Sports Association in Hong Kong. In recent years, despite limited facilities in Hong Kong and the closure of several public golf facilities, the HKGA has made great strides: the number of local children gaining access to golf is on the rise thanks to HSBC Golf For Schools; the number of non-golf club members subscribing to the HKGA for a golf handicap has hit 10,000 for the first time; and the level of excellence among our elite-level players is at an all-time high – including 25 players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and more than 15 on college golf scholarships overseas.

One of our elite-level players is 22-year-old Tiffany Chan who broke into the world top 10 in 2015 having won Hong Kong golf’s first ever gold medal at the World University Games; and Tiffany now has an outside chance to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio having won a professional golf tournament as an amateur in 2015 – another first for Hong Kong. Currently on a golf scholarship at the University of Southern California, Tiffany first got into golf through the LCSD’s Public Driving Range in Tuen Mun – so just imagine how many more Tiffany Chans we could unearth if the HKGA was to have its first ever National Golf Park!

END

It’s great news the HKGA are trying to do something to promote golf in Hong Kong, but Tseung Kwan O isn’t exactly going make people race out there to play golf.  Anybody living out there already has close access to KSC. For those of us living on HK Island, especially Southside, the HK Golf Club’s night driving range is still going to be a much more attractive option.  Still, make sure to support the effort if you’re a golfer in Hong Kong, it’s better than nothing and may open some more opportunities.
